Description
This photo was taken near the western entrance to the park. You hear a lot of talk about bears and lions from various staff around the area, but we never saw either on our trip. We did see other wildlife such as javelina, rabbits, deer, and lots of roadrunners.
Big Bend National Park in the U.S. state of Texas has national significance as the largest protected area of Chihuahuan Desert topography and ecology in the United States.
The tall brown and green plants here are called Ocotillo. Fouquieria splendens (commonly known as ocotillo, but also referred to as coachwhip, candlewood, slimwood, desert coral, Jacob's staff, Jacob cactus, and vine cactus) is a plant indigenous to the Sonoran Desert and Chihuahuan Desert in the Southwestern United States, and northern Mexico.
