Description
Same image as "Cross Mountain Park" but with textures applied for special effects. In 1847, during the settling of Fredericksburg, Texas a wooden cross was found on the hilltop, thought to be left by earlier Spanish explorers who passed through the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg pioneers soon gave this hill the name Kreuzberg or Cross Mountain. Although the original cross has been lost to history, today this large metal cross stands in its place.
This iconic Fredericksburg landmark is located at the summit of an historic marlstone and limestone hill with an elevation of 1,951 feet above sea level.
In 2014 Cross Mountain underwent a total renovation including upgraded hiking paths, a new hiking trail and installation of picnic tables. Now visitors and locals alike enjoy quick 1.2 mile hikes to the top of Cross Mountain and breathtaking views of the Texas Hill Country.
