Description
Taken at Lover's Point Park, in Pacific Grove near Monterey, California. This squirrel in a small California park, ran right up to me as I took it's picture. The squirrels are unfortunately a little too tame in California and often expect food from humans. Please don't feed the wildlife.
Squirrels belong to family Sciuridae of small or medium-size rodents. Squirrels are indigenous to the Americas, Eurasia, and Africa, and have been introduced to Australia. The earliest known squirrels date from the Eocene and are most closely related to the mountain beaver and to the dormouse among living rodent families.
