Description
Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial is a bronze sculpture of Stevie Ray Vaughan by Ralph Helmick, located at the intersection of Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail (South Bank at South 1st and Riverside Drive) in Austin, Texas.
Stevie Ray Vaughan, was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is widely considered one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of blues music.
He was killed in the crash of a helicopter piloted by Jeff Brown on the side of a ski hill at Alpine Valley Resort in East Troy, Wisconsin on Monday, August 27, 1990; Vaughan had just performed at the resort's amphitheatre with Double Trouble. In 1993, a memorial statue of Vaughan was unveiled on Auditorium Shores (In Zilker Park) and is the first public monument of a musician in Austin. Vaughan was born in Texas and had spent part of his life living in Austin and performing at local venues.
